The proposal would increase the minimum wage to $25 an hour for hotel, event center, and janitorial service workers in the tourism sector. If approved, the ordinance would go into effect Jan. 1, 2026.

Proposed. The San Diego City Council's Select Committee on Addressing Cost of Living unanimously passed a proposal to raise the minimum wage of hospitality workers in the city to $25 an hour. The proposal will return to staff in Councilman Sean Elo-Rivera's office, who will draft an ordinance to present to the full City Council later this year.
